Sicilian treats are not that common in Florence or Tuscany. But we hoped to have some arancini on our trip to florence. As luck would have it we found it at Ara Sicilia stall at the Mercato Centrale.
Arancini are risottos rice balls stuffed with cheese and meat or vegetables. They are then breaded with eggwash and fried. The good ones have a bite to the rice of the outer fried coating and inside is cheesy and flavorful and moist, like a risotto.
We tried the eggplant ones called norma and they were delicious. Also the ones with spinach were wonderful.
We also got a mini cannolo dipped in pistachios. These are not filled ahead of time and are delicious. Noticeable is how the ricotta is silky smooth and light. The cannolo were not as sweet as ones we have had before and this made them even more delicious.
