Would you believe if i said this was my best breakfast in 2016? Well, am crazy about some simple things which even my wife and friends would walk past without skipping a step. Same thing happened the morning i wanted to go to Josey Baker Bread. All of the people except me opted to sleep in before we headed out to napa valley. I woke up early, got an uber and drove down here.
Everywhere in the shop bread beckons you.
Here the bread is crusty and caramelized and quite aggressively charred to create flavors.
The crumb is soft and airy and intriguingly complex in flavors. Imagine drinking a glass of wonderful wheat beer, the sweetness complex and the flavors matured and developed. If you are indian and have eaten jwari or bajri bhakari, this piece of bread took me there. Am surprised their menu has the bread covered in different spreads or salad, yet their most endearing product is bread. They accommodated my request to give me just a toast which is simply buttered with some sea salt. Then i closed my eyes and ate. The photo below cannot do justice to this moment, but this was simplistically spectacular. Why am i so crazy about this bread? Well am not going to be able to taste one just like it unless is go here, am sure about this. Not even in some fantastic bakeries in europe. Am sure there would be equally good breads, but none with the same identity, this bread was like art. Would others or you find themselves equally excited, i would say probably not :), you have to find your own sweet spot for bread. I only wish they sold equally fantastic homemade cultured butter alongside.
In the spirt of things i also tried the topped open faced toast which seemed to be literally everyone’s order. It was outstanding but then took away from the magic of the bread.
