Unlike what we were used to in michigan there are very few mediterranean restaurants in Madison. Nile somewhat fills that gap with their Egyptian fare.
Its always best to start with small plates at such restaurants Nile has some very good appetizers and some interesting options.
We always order some egyptian tea which is mild and actually tastes very good just without any sweetener although some honey is provided if you like. The usual hummus and baba ghanouj are present as well and are quite good. We also love to start with some olives and feta cheese which beings some nice salty savory flavors and is great with the warm pita bread and some tea to sip on. The bread gets some zatar and sesame dip with olive oil.
The spinach lentil soup is delightful and has a tartness to cut down the richness that is unique. The falafels are absolutely top notch and vegeterian’s can order a trio from the selection.
The Ful Mudemas is a egyptian street food delicacy which egyptians prefer for breakfast and is great to soak up with some bread.
Onto the meat plates there are some good combinations. We love the chicken shawirma with tender pieces of chicken mixed and topped with some yogurt, red onions and sumac.
We love to order some side of couscous and rice on the side. Both the couscous and rice are light and fluffy. The couscous comes sprinkled with cinamon and smells teasingly sweet and bot the sides are perfect with your meat.
