Zeb Gastronomia is one of the family trattorias that has be turned into a finer dine location. It opens at 7.30 in the evening and we had a table reserved.
The seating is like a bar allowing to engage in conversation with your fellow diners. We had a couple across from us spot our ravioli and ask us how it was and then order it. On our side we ran into another couple from california who were doing their sabbatical in Denmark. They had brought their daugher along and we felt it was fantastic that she got to experience the culture of florence and also the good food here.
The menu changes seasonally and is a chalkboard affair. In fact the board is brought to your table and the options explained for every course. This is a restaurant run by a mom and son duo. The chef is a man of few words but it is easy to communicate in english and no problem ordering at all.
We ordered pear ravioli with ricotta filling. This was fantastic, slightly sweeter and mildly acidic because of the pears.
The zucchini flower ravioli was also fantastic. It had cream of burrata and poppy seeds to make it rich and creamy.
For entrees we ordered roasted chicken and eggplant parmigiana. Although good these are rich and heavy portions so we had no room for desserts.
